So I had hoped that yesterday would be the blog day, but alas I was mistaken. Don't worry, the blog is there, percolating in my head, and it's taking awhile to get to the point where it's more than just a jumble of incoherent thoughts that have something in common. Which is my problem. But let me tell you, it'll be good.
Hrm, I did find something interesting though, the other day by listening to the Progressive Talk Radio on Green 960 out of San Fransisco. Link here. Apparently there was a raid on a Texas gay bar, last year. IN 2009! This is the freaking new millennium people, why are we still standing for this. But I guess it could only happen in the south. (see previous posts for various and sundry opinions regarding the south). Not only did they raid the bar, they did it on the 40th anniversary of the raid on the Stonewall Inn in NYC, and you'll notice a lack of media coverage, even a year later. And all I can ask is why?

So that's all I've got for you today, as laundry needs to be done before I head off to work. Being an adult stinks. I have no idea why children want to grow up so fast. Oh wait...yeah I do.
Funny thing about black and white.
You mix it together and you get grey.
And it doesn't matter how much white
you try and put back in, you're never
going to get anything but grey.

I wish you'd quit being so anti-South. How about I be anti-Wisconsin. Wisconsin is full of alcoholics, cold weather, and mean-spirited liberals. See how ridiculous that sounds? Yet that's exactly what you do with the South.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you're gay but if people disapprove of your lifestyle, GET OVER IT! They have reason to, based on the Bible. I'm not saying you're going to hell, we're all sinners we all have our vices. But your lifestyle is sinful. Still, you shouldn't "hate" a region of the country because Christians who actually adhere to the Bible are in a relatively high majority there. I understand you're angry at hate crimes, but you can't stereotype the whole South because it contains some assholes (just like every other region of the country).
Well, I'm in kind of a snippy mood, and have had some aggression percolating in the last couple of days, so you're just going to be a creative outlet.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, thanks for reading! =) I'm always happy to know that people are reading what I'm writing and commenting on my opinions.
Which brings me to my second point. I'll be as (you call it) "anti-south" as I want. Thank you First Amendment. But also notice I'm not disagreeing with you regarding my home state. We do have all of those things, so it's not really ridiculous to claim those things...that's why I live here. (Although we do have a portion of right-wing nut-jobs and evangelical Christians, I went to college with some of them) Those things don't really bother me at all. Close-minded, ignorant, uneducated, bigoted, homophobic, right-wing nut-jobs, evangelical Christians, and warm weather...these things bother me. Ergo, I don't live in the south.
Yes, I'm gay. And because we live in this country people are free to disapprove of my lifestyle up, down, left, right, and sideways. That's the benefit of our country. But to claim that my lifestyle is sinful, while simply claiming that everyone has vices is to minimize the spiritual damage those vices cause, because each of those vices is a damnable sin.
And I don't hate the south. I dislike it immensely. And I don't think you can say that Christians south of the Mason Dixon line actually adhere to the Bible, because I'm sure you eat shellfish, wear garments made of more than one fabric, don't kill disrespectful children or adulterers or prostitutes or fornicators, don't arrange marriages for your daughters. Etc...
Now I will give you that I shouldn't stereotype the South based on the action of the undesirables (of my viewpoint) who live there. But then I don't think people should stereotype all gay people based on the actions of the flamboyant ones either. So it goes both ways.
As always, thanks for reading! I hope we can continue this dialogue. Hopefully it'll be constructive. =)
Are you saying that people who disagree with your lifestyle are homophobic?
ReplyDeleteI don't believe I ever said anything of the sort.
ReplyDeleteIf you want to infer that based on my response, then go for it. That's the benefit of free thought and the ability to come to your own conclusions.
I would like to ask, in the interest of conversation, why would you conclude based on what I said that I would think that anyone who disagrees with my lifestyle is and/or must be homophobic?
